This past week I have been reflecting on Roots. Last year I had the pleasure of participating in Reflect 2020 with Elevation Church. For those who are not familiar with the ministry this was the yearly women’s event put on by Holly Furtick and the women’s
ministry of Elevation Church. Due to Covid-19 it was held virtually in 2020. Ladies
from all around the world were able to tune in and be encouraged together by
God’s word. Today I re-listened to the message and wanted to look back on how the Lord was using this message to strengthen me for the season to come. If you want to watch the whole message, it is very worthy of your time.
Everything said was so wonderful, but I want to focus on the main point in particular, ROOTS. Where are your roots?
This is something I wrote right after REFLECT night:
In life we all have been through something difficult, but what we did BEFORE the storm hit played a major role in how we responded to the situation…whether we realize it or not. The roots that we lay determine our strength in the storm. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a patient person. When I want something I want it the Amazon way… FAST! Waiting a long time is just frustrating. This can be applied to so many areas of each of our lives. It takes time to get bring your grade up in school, move up at work, lose weight or grow in a relationship. I know this is all true, but it’s hard to live out practically. Think, what good things am I working towards? Remember, you have to build roots before the storm comes! Open your bible, spend time on your knees, invest in your "Jesus Roots"... This is what really matters!
I wrote this in November. That was three months ago. At that point I had no idea that I would loose my job in February. Yet, the gentle spirit of the Lord was preparing me to be ready for a loss. Trying to get me to put down roots in Him. To be reminded that I needed seek love, security, and purpose from Jesus, not my job or the things of the world. He is the only one who can satisfy my desires.
Maybe your on the mountain top of your Christian life, praise HIM.
Or you're in the lowest point of your life, look to HIM.
Either way look back to the months beforehand and see how what you did shaped you into the person you are right now. Your time spent in the things of God are what matters! Those are the things that carry you through trials and strengthen you for what is to come. I know it's hard. I really do. I see in hindsight that God was wanting me to put down roots in Him, and I did, but I could have done more.
There were plenty of wasteful evenings spent watching too much Netflix, early mornings I hit snooze instead of getting up to read my bible, and most of all scrolling way to much through things that don't really matter. It's no easy task to grow in your faith, yet it is a thing of great value! SO...
WHERE ARE YOUR ROOTS?
The Bible has so much to say about putting down roots. Here are a few of my favorite verses:
Colossians 2:6-9
" Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily"
Jeremiah 17:7-8
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Pslam 1:3
"He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
