MOSAIC

MOSAIC

Not a word you hear every day right? Maybe your first thought is color, broken prices, or even an artistic masterpiece.

Because of this year’s recital, I can’t help but think about our “MOSAIC” design. The way that each year’s theme and the color is woven into one big picture of the mosaic logo. This is such an accurate representation of how each year builds off the last year as they all come together to represent one thing. And that is Jesus Christ!

The goal at Graceful Gospel Dance Academy is “to share Christ with the world through the graceful art of dance.” And crazy enough even this has a Mosaic element to it. Living out this mission statement requires a lot of little pieces!

It takes moms driving their daughters to class. Students carve out intentional time to come learn. Teachers dedicate hours to preparation and planning for class and recital dances. Administration working out the details. And even sometimes it looks like a Swiffer wet jet, a trash bag, and Clorox wipes, just cleaning up. It all matters! It’s all a part of the mosaic picture to keep the mission going.

God has used so many things over the past 10 years. I think back and a few special moments come to mind.

•A Salvation in dance class.

•Dancing in local nursing homes and Assisted Living Communities.

•Memorizing many passages of scripture through Dance the Word.

•Packing Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes, and receiving letters back from the recipient.

•Praying for and with hundreds of dancers, from the tiny toddler prayer to the teen struggles of life; in it all we have gone to the throne room together inside our pink and purple studio.

Oh, I that God for these glorious moments. We praise Him for the beautiful BIG picture. Yet it’s not always big. Sometimes it’s small. Sometimes it’s broken. Sometimes even shattered, but that’s not the glamorous part, still, we see God’s hand.

Sometimes dancers get tired, but they keep coming back to practice.

Sometimes, teachers, have a hard time coming up with another idea, but the Lord provides.

Sometimes people leave, because life changes, but then new students come.

God uses every piece, every person, for His purpose. It’s truly a picture of beauty.

We are just people. Most of all sinners, yet saved by God’s grace. We have all have our “stuff” we bring to the table. Good and bad. Godly and worldly. Each instructor, student, and staff member has gifts that God has specifically given to them. When using these gifts in individual lives, an impact is made; BUT when we all come together the impact grows! The balance is the strength of one helping the weakness of another. GGDA is truly a MOSAIC.

When defining MOSAIC we see this description:

“a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass.”

Wow. Read that again. There is a spiritual aspect to it. A few things stand out.

  1. A pattern was produced.

This “pattern” does not just happen, it is produced. In thinking about the production of any kind we know that work is involved. God’s Word has a lot to say about what we produce.

Romans 6:3-4

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”

2 Corinthians 9:11

“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

Luke 6:45

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

2. By arranging together small colored prices.

It’s not meant to be done alone. Every small colored piece matters. You matter! I matter! The person next to you matters! Without every dancer, there would be no one mosaic picture. God uses each of us, as small as we are, to bring together one big picture. And it’s not about us. It’s not even about Graceful Gospel Dance Academy. It is about the mission. To share Christ with the world, and in this little corner of Commerce, it’s through the graceful art of dance. Why you might ask? Because that’s what God has given us. That’s the talent He’s chosen to cultivate. So let Him! Let Him use every little piece. Every tutu, pointe shoe, tap shoe, ballet shoe, jazz shoe, ribbon, even every shadow all for His glory.
