Christmas & Advent

Advent 2022🎄

What a joy it is to dive into the story of CHRISTmas! I have been blessed these past two years by The Daily Grace Co's Advent study. It has set my heart and mind on the true meaning of Christmas.

I’ll be honest. It’s not been a picture perfect ride this past month. I’ve gotten behind, sleepily made it through days, and even felt a little overwhelmed with one more thing to do.

It’s not about always opening your Bible in a perfect place at the perfect scheduled time. Yes, it is so important to intentionally be still before the Lord each day, but it is a lot okay to open the word in the small pockets of the day you have.

So today I started again. In my car, a few minutes right before work. It wasn’t long but it was good to be in the word.

Advent:

To be filled with HOPE that this is not the end.

To find JOY in the birth of Jesus.

To know the PEACE of God.

To find perfect LOVE in love Himself.

This is Christmas.

Not decorations.

Not gifts.

Not parties.

Not shopping.

Not baking.

Not hosting.

Not Santa.

Not Elf.

Not movies.

Not trees.

No, not any of that. It's all about JESUS.

Many of these things can contribute to the fun and even exemplify the true heart of Christmas. Unfortunately, we often find ourselves more distracted than directed in the holiday season.

So we must reset. Focus on our SWEET JESUS. The true reason for the season.

You may be asking, how can I do this? Here are a few fun and practical ideas.

•Have a Birthday Cake for Jesus on Christmas morning. Sing Happy Birthday to Jesus and have the kids blow out candles for Him! I promise you this is a fun tradition they won't soon forget. As a child we always had cake for breakfast on Christmas Day...just because it was Jesus' birthday. It was always something exiting to look forward to.

•Act out the nativity at your family Christmas party. This was a tradition that my family started when I was probably 4 or 5 years old and we still do it today. Often times it is a very comical production...with costumes that aren't very fancy and don't fit us all anymore, BUT it is so much fun. This is also the perfect tool to use to share the gospel message with your whole family in a fun way.

•GIVE! There is so much joy to be found in giving. The Bible and science agree it is better to give than to receive. It does something life giving to your heart, mind, and soul. I'm a gift person, I love a thoughtful gift or a good surprise. It fills me up, to know someone took the time to think about me and something I would love or use. Yet it does so much more to my heart to watch someone open a gift I got them and have a smile on their face. Or even go silently give without anyone else knowing. Giving gives the giver joy!

Today, as you prepare your heart and home for Christmas Day take a moment to pause and remember why we celebrate in the first place!

Jesus is the reason for the season!
