Thanking the Lord for 25 years of life on earth!
I love my birthday, but something about this one made me feel older. I mean 25 is halfway to 50. Now, I know what you are saying, “25 is not that old just wait till you get ___”. Yes, you’re probably right I will feel differently then, but this is now, and it feels old.
A birthday is a time to celebrate God-given life and an excellent time to reflect on just how fast this life is passing by. Whether we are here for 25 or 125 years this life is but a second in comparison to the eternity that awaits us.
So, with this reality in mind, I have to ask the question:
“How am I spending my short life here on earth?”
I want the answer to be that I keep eternity before my eyes each and every moment of the day. Unfortunately, that is not always the truth.
I get distracted.
I waste time.
I fall into sin.
Every time it grieves my heart and frustrates my soul that I cannot just stay focused on eternity. God in His kindness does not strike me down when I fall short but offers mercy for the next moment in time. Lamentations 3:22-2 talks about the mercy of God being renewed each day:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end: they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness“
Oh how desperately we all need a do-over each day. Thank Lord for never ceasing to love and forgive your people. It is undeserved but so appreciated.
Knowing that sin is a reality in this fallen world can be discouraging, but the redemption given to all who believe in Jesus fills my heart with hope. Hope to move forward even when I fall. Hope that this is not the end. There is more. What lies ahead is better...and not just a "the best is yet to come" flippant saying. No, it is a promise. The best is coming, and his name is Jesus. The "best" could come in my lifetime, or I could not see it till I am on the other side of this world, but the day is drawing near.
Jesus encouraged His disciples to look forward to the future. He has not given us an empty promise. He is not a liar, rather He is the truth itself. We can trust His word.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14: 1-3
With this I have a hope and joy that can only come from Jesus. He is my everything. He is the reason I am alive and the reason I will live forever in heaven.
With the gift of life, even in death, I will choose to live for HIM.
Thank you, Lord, for 25 beautiful years. I have loved you for as long as I can remember and thank you for bringing me into a relationship with you at an early age.
All I am is yours.
